Cynics Be Gone. The Late Lounge Is Back.

Cynicism masquerades as wisdom but it is the farthest thing from it.

With that in mind, we're here to tell you the Late Lounge is back! We didn’t honestly know if this day would ever come. It took 2 years of rest and regeneration to find our enthusiasm for the show again. Loungers know if your heart isn’t in it! And don't mind telling you! However, throughout our hiatus, the listener emails never stopped flowing. They went like this. ‘When is the Late Lounge coming back? We miss it.’

So, with a genuine feeling of bon homie, we are delighted to bring you a brand-new show and will do so at the start of every month.

Why add another podcast to an already saturated market a cynic may well ask? Well, firstly cynics be gone.

Cynicism masquerades as wisdom but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything.  Cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt or disappoint us. (I lifted that quote from a wise soul. I’m SO here for it.)

The Late Lounge has a thoroughbred history. It started on Jazz FM in the 90s. No, actually, its raw form was on Power FM first. Named The Chill Out Room, it was 2 hours of classic chill with guitars thrown in. Think Coldplay - Yellow. On the last show I ever did on Power FM, the then boss of Jazz FM was listening whilst driving through Hampshire and thought he could do something with what he heard. Talk about SERENDIPITY. The Late Lounge was born and lived at Jazz FM for a long time. There, it established itself as the doyenne of all things chill, was a finalist in the top radio awards of the time and grew a loyal global fan base. RIP beloved Richard Wheatly, the maverick behind Jazz FM and the Late Lounge’s BIGGEST fan.

Changes at Jazz FM saw the end of its 2nd iteration. And so, the podcast was born.

And here we are again. 2024. I feel we have been through so much. We shared the emotional Covid lock down shows with requests for brave front line workers; the listener complied best ever tracks special; many a gorgeous Christmas episode and some double length, sunshine infused bank holiday extravaganzas. We are on iTunes and have lots of five-star reviews. But the best way to listen is by clicking on the link you see on our socials. Loungers will be directed to claireanderson.com Listening is completely free.

So, say hi. Please do. These are the ways to get in touch. Let us know you are with us.
